2,738 arrested for election gun ban nationwide

A total of 2,738 individuals have been arrested nationwide for violating the election gun ban.

Of those apprehended, 2,661 were civilians, 44 were security guards, 16 were police officers, and 17 were military personnel.

PNP operations have resulted in the confiscation of 2,065 firearms, 11,128 pieces of ammunition, and 1,103 deadly weapons.

The National Capital Region has the highest number of violators with 1,017, followed by Calabarzon (313), Central Visayas (283), Central Luzon (258), and Western Visayas (159).

The election gun ban, which prohibits the carrying of firearms or deadly weapons outside of one's residence and in public places, is in effect from January 9 until June 8.

Violators face imprisonment, disqualification from holding public office, and perpetual disqualification from obtaining a gun license.
