22 Manila barangay chairmen return P2.4M in excess aid funds

Twenty-two barangay chairpersons in Manila returned over P2.4 million in excess funds from the City Amelioration Crisis Assistance Fund (CACAF).

Barangay 787 Chairman Eduardo Dungao, Jr. was among those who returned P30,000 in excess relief funds. This excess was from the CACAF after 726 out of 756 families in his barangay received the aid, with the remaining 30 families unavailable to receive it.

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso stated that some barangay officials were unable to distribute the cash aid to families who had gone home to their provinces, stayed at their workplaces, or were in areas under lockdown.

Domagoso also mentioned that some families were listed as recipients twice, contributing to the excess money.

The city has distributed P1,000 in financial assistance to 576,133 families across 896 barangays, surpassing the initial target of 568,000 families.

The P591-million CACAF was allocated through City Ordinance No. 8625 to aid families during the COVID-19 crisis.
