20 Senate employees test positive for COVID-19

Four additional Senate employees have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases within the institution to 20.

Two of the newly infected employees were from the office of Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, while the other two were from other Senate offices.

Zubiri expressed concern over the contamination spread and suggested that the Senate should not open to the public yet.

Two offices, including Zubiri's, were placed on a three-day lockdown from July 6 to 9.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III stated that a total lockdown is not possible, only a semi-lockdown, due to the need to process employee payroll.

The 20 confirmed cases include three senators who have since recovered, and a consultant of Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. who died in March.
