19-year-old triathlete Kira Ellis wins silver despite food poisoning

Kira Ellis, a 19-year-old triathlete, won a silver medal in the women's individual triathlon at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games, bringing her total medal count to five.

Ellis secured the silver medal despite suffering from food poisoning, which led to her hospitalization the evening before the race.

She finished the 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run in 1 hour, 1 minute, and 2.8 seconds, placing second behind Indonesia's Martina Ayu Pratiwi.

This silver medal adds to Ellis's previous wins of two golds and two silvers in team relays during the Games.

Ellis had to compete solo in the individual event as her teammate, Raven Alcoseba, also fell ill with food poisoning.
