PNVF names 20-player pool for SEA Games volleyball

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has named a 20-strong Alas Pilipinas Women's pool for the upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December.

The team aims to break the Philippines' decades-long medal drought in women's volleyball, last achieving a bronze in 2005.

Led by captain and setter Jia De Guzman, the squad includes fellow playmakers Mars Alba and Julia Coronel, liberos Dawn Macandili-Catindig, Jen Nierva, and Justine Jazareno, and notable spikers Alyssa Solomon, Kat Tolentino, Bella Belen, Angel Canino, Eya Laure, Shaina Nitura, Alleiah Malaluan, and Vanie Gandler.

Middle blockers Dell Palomata, Amie Provido, Maddie Madayag, Thea Gagate, and Fifi Sharma complete the roster.

The pool will be trimmed down to around 14 to 15 players before the competition window on December 10 to 16.

Coach Jorge Souza De Brito will lead the team for his third SEA Games appearance.

PNVF president Tats Suzara is targeting a gold medal, with a training camp planned from November 15 to 30 in either Japan or Taiwan.

The federation faces scheduling challenges with the SEA Games falling within the club calendar, requiring discussions with professional clubs.
