160 economists back Leni Robredo for president

More than 160 economists, including five former NEDA directors-general, have endorsed Vice President Leni Robredo's presidential bid.

The group believes competent leadership is crucial for restoring public trust and confidence to effectively manage the country's economic recovery from the pandemic.

They stated that the Philippines needs a better pandemic response, one that is sound, prompt, informed by science and evidence-based, as the centerpiece for the resumption of economic activity.

According to the economists, Robredo is their best hope to turn the tide and bring back the people's trust in government.

The former NEDA chiefs highlighted Robredo's solid economics and legal background as essential for crafting policies to quicken economic recovery.

Notable signatories include former NEDA chiefs Ernesto Pernia, Solita Monsod, Cielito Habito, Dante Canlas, and Emmanuel Esguerra, who served under various past administrations.
