16 villages in Wao under lockdown amid COVID-19 surge

Sixteen villages in Wao, Lanao del Sur have been placed under granular lockdown due to a surge in COVID-19 cases and the recent deaths of three individuals.

The municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer, Francis Garcia, stated that the increasing number of cases prompted the town's task force to recommend the lockdown.

The three COVID-19 positive individuals who died on Sunday represent the highest single-day death toll recorded in the area.

Two of the deceased were initially sent to Cagayan de Oro City for cremation, but their bodies were returned for burial after the crematorium temporarily ceased operations.

Wao currently has over 200 active COVID-19 cases, and its isolation facility is overwhelmed, leading to asymptomatic patients undergoing home quarantine.

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region's Rapid Emergency Action for Disaster Incidence Center distributed food packs and hygiene kits to affected residents on Saturday.
