126 Filipinos evacuated from Thailand-Cambodia border amid rising tensions

126 Filipinos living near the Thailand-Cambodia border have been evacuated due to rising tensions between the two neighboring countries.

Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz-Paredes confirmed the mandatory evacuation of the Filipinos residing in Thai provinces near the Cambodian border.

All Filipinos are safe and unharmed, staying in government facilities or with friends.

The Cambodia-Thailand border conflict reignited in December, shattering a fragile peace agreement signed weeks earlier.

The two neighbors blame each other for escalating tensions over a decades-old territorial dispute dating back to ambiguous French colonial-era boundary demarcations from the early 1900s.

The fighting, the most severe since 2008, ended after US President Donald Trump mediated a ceasefire in July, followed by a comprehensive peace accord signed in October.
