11 BIFF members surrender in Maguindanao del Sur

Eleven more members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) surrendered to military authorities in Maguindanao del Sur, pledging allegiance to the government.

The surrenderers promised to help the Army's 6th Infantry Division convince their remaining companions to return to the fold of law.

The group renounced their membership with the BIFF during a symbolic rite at the headquarters of the 90th Infantry Battalion in Datu Saudi Ampatuan town.

Local officials and representatives from various government agencies witnessed the ceremony.

Their surrender was facilitated through the intercession of local executives from six municipalities in Maguindanao del Sur and various units of the police and army.

Major Gen. Donald M. Gumiran, commander of the 6th ID, stated that the BIFF members were convinced to return to the government through these concerted efforts.
