1,062 PH health workers contracted COVID-19

A total of 1,062 healthcare workers in the Philippines have tested positive for COVID-19, representing 12 percent of the country's total cases.

Among the infected healthcare workers, 422 are doctors, 386 are nurses, 30 are medical technologists, 21 are radiologic technologists, 51 are nursing assistants, and 152 are other health facility employees.

The World Health Organization (WHO) expressed concern over the "worrisome" number of Filipino health workers dying due to COVID-19, noting it is significantly higher than the 2-3% infection rate in its region.

This 12 percent infection rate among Filipino health workers is higher than China's 4 percent.

The DOH assures that the correct usage of PPEs is a key strategy in protecting healthcare workers and that the provision of PPEs will continue.
