100,000 construction workers jobless due to flood control project license cancellations

Approximately 100,000 construction workers are impacted by the cancellation of licenses for contractors involved in the flood control project scandal.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian revealed this figure, citing estimates from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), during a budget hearing for DOLE.

Senator Risa Hontiveros highlighted that the families of these displaced workers require immediate and sustained support.

The Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) is in the final stages of revoking the licenses of the top 15 contractors implicated in the scandal, as previously announced by the Department of Trade and Industry.

Gatchalian acknowledged that the construction industry is currently experiencing a slowdown, anticipating further disruptions in the labor market in the coming months due to this issue.
