Relatives of Pinay with UK virus variant test negative for COVID-19
Ten relatives of an overseas Filipina worker (OFW) in Cagayan who tested positive for the UK COVID-19 variant in Hong Kong have tested negative.
The OFW had direct contact with her relatives in Solana, Cagayan during a visit before she returned to Hong Kong.
Her initial swab test in Manila on December 19 was negative, but a subsequent test in Hong Kong on January 2 yielded a positive result for the new variant.
The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed the passenger was a 30-year-old overseas Filipino worker.
The UK variant is more infectious but there are no indications yet that it causes a more severe illness.
Contact tracing was initiated by the DOH and the Regional and Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit.
The 10 close contacts were quarantined and subjected to swab tests.
