Ten CIDG officers in restrictive custody over alleged extortion, robbery, kidnapping

Ten CIDG police officers from the Southern Metro Manila District Field Unit (SDFU) are under restrictive custody at the PNP Custodial Facility for alleged robbery, extortion, and kidnapping.

The incident occurred on February 17, 2025, when the officers raided a warehouse in First Tondo Complex, Tondo, Manila, and took individuals to the CIDG-SDFU Office in Taguig City, accusing them of violating the Firearms Law.

The accused officers, including a police lieutenant colonel, a major, four sergeants, a corporal, and three patrolmen, allegedly demanded P18 million for the victims' release.

According to PNP spokesperson PBGen Jean Fajardo, the victims were asked for money and gave it in exchange for their release, but after they gave it, they were taken to another location where they were shown firearms and asked for additional money, which they could not provide.

The CIDG chief, PMGen Nicolas Torre III, confirmed the custody arrangements, and PNP spokesperson PBGen Jean Fajardo stated that the case is being investigated by the IMEG.

Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III ordered the restrictive custody after receiving a report from the IMEG on April 28, 2025, following the filing of administrative cases on April 21, 2025, recommending charges of grave misconduct, conduct unbecoming of a police officer, and neglect of duty.
